Mrs Ajoke who above all retained her maiden name mostly due to her husband’s respect for her career and her stage identity, was born into the family of late Chief Emmanuel Afolabi Silva on September 29 1961.

Mrs Ajoke Silva has been married for over 30 years to the handsome veteran Actor Mr Olu Jacobs. They met at the national theatre where Olu Jacobs was attending a meeting, in his words.I was having a meeting at the National Theatre and the door opened a young lady came in. I looked at her.
I have never met her before in my life and I said to the people in the room ‘ladies and gentlemen, this is the lady I am going to marry’. Everybody laughed. She looked at me up and down, hissed and left. Today, she is my wife.
Mrs Ajoke’s marriage is one among the few which has stood the test of time and waxed stronger above all odds in the Nigeria entertainment industry and the Nigeria society at large. When asked how they were able to make their marriage last this long she simply attributed the success to God’s grace, as well as acknowledging the fact that challenges exist but with the help of God they have been able to scale through without burning up.
In 1981 Mrs Ajoke started her acting journey; she featured in “mind blending” in 1990 and in 1993 featured in a Yoruba movie “Oworulojo”. Over the years she has starred in various movies such as “The Grave Dust” “Tango with me” “Phone Swap” “Married but Living Single” “letters to a stranger” “the Amazing Grace” “The visitors” “30 Days” etc. she also has received numerous awards for her ability to convey true talent on screen. She was awarded best actress in her lead role played in “widow’s cot”
Mrs Ajoke Silva alongside her husband received Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, also the recipient of EMOTAN Award from African Independent Television (AIT) and the SOLIDRA Award recepiant for Visual Art was Mrs Ajoke Silva Jacobs.
She’s one who is looked up to in the Nigeria movie Industry, The like of Bimbo Akintola acknowledged her calling her Aunty Joke, she believed she is a positive influence on her career, and thanked her for the things she did without noticing she did them.
She paints the words of Diane Mariechild “A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.” True with her ability to influence the lives of those she comes in contact with positively and aiding them in seeing and believing what the ordinary eyes fails to behold. Mrs Ajoke alongside being a talented actress also produces and coproduces movies, the likes of THE HEARTBEAT,The KINGMARKER with Olu Jacobs etc.
She’s the Director of Studies at the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, the pioneer managing director of Malete Film Village, in association with Kwara State University. She functioned as the Academy principal in Project Fame West Africa season 3, and also a faculty member of Project Fame West Africa. Mrs Ajoke In September 2016 was unveiled as the brand ambassador for AIICO Pension Managers Limited (APML).
She’s an active promoter and supporter of women emancipation and empowerment, contributing to the enhancement and betterment of women. She stands against domestic violence and abuse, when asked in an interview about her marriage after stating the obvious (attributing their success to God), she went on to add
“And mind you, making your marriage stand the test of time doesn’t mean enduring all sorts of brutality. I wouldn’t support the fact that because you want your marriage to last, you put yourself under physical and emotional battery. If it is not working, get out fast”
Words from a woman who has experienced both the ugly and beautiful angle of marriage, if only more of such words be poured out to the hearings of the victims of domestic violence then change would be evident in our society.
