The highly anticipated 2017 EMAs held last night at Wembley, London and the star studded event pulled all the stops to ensure fans, artistes and music enthusiasts had a swell time. The event was hosted by my number one girl crush and London’s hottest, Rita Ora.
When MTV announced that the ‘How we do’ crooner was hosting this year, cyber sphere went ablaze with anticipation as it is no news to anyone that Rita is all shades of crazy. And she proved it last night with a whopping THIRTEEN outfit changes, impeccable hosting and an electrifying performance.
Rita showed up at the red carpet wearing a bathrobe and a plethora of bling. We all knew it was going to get cray cray when she nearly doubled over and announced she almost had a nip slip and it ‘wouldn’t be the first time’. Then she moved on to take pictures with her white underwear showing. So Rita!
Her red carpet outfit was an homage to a similar bathrobe Jennifer Lopez wore to AMAs and we all know Rita adores Jenny. Turns out it was part of a skit where she was chilling on her couch then got called up and got informed she was hosting the EMAs ASAnow. She threw on bling, had her makeup fixed and raced to the event.
She got into an elevator and was lifted to the stage in a short bathrobe. Iconic, people. Pure iconic. She apologized for not having enough time to get dressed and applauded Eminem’s outstanding rendition of his hit New song ‘Walk on Water’.
Her first outfit change was a dazzling multi-colored frock which she played up with her blonde beachy waves and black platform stilettos.
She switched it up for a blue and gold bodysuit with a sparkly sheer asymmetric wrap detail draped diagonally.
Rita’s third outfit for the main event was a deconstructed black Middle East inspired gown which she teamed with outlandish head jewelry and chunky silver earrings. For Rita, it’s go big or go home and we all know which side of that fence she resides.
Just like her outfits, Rita switched up her wigs like every other second. Her fourth outfit consisted of a black midi dress which had a pitchfork in the front. You like gardening, well so does Rita. The only difference is that she harvests millions of dollars and twice as much fans. Rita rocked centre parted bone straight ebony hair and black pumps.
Once you go black, you never go back, right? Wrong. Rita was back in her blonde tresses in no time. Take that, black hair enthusiasts! She had on a silk graphic dress with a yellow fur scarf draped on one shoulder.
Think dungarees are for kids? I’m not quite sure why people have that absurd opinion. But luckily, Rita Ora doesn’t care what you think. She rocked a sand khaki dungaree with sheer organza tassels and black fur. The amazing gold head wrap was a nod to her favorite 2014 look.
Up next was an uber glam graphic black, red and white cape with blue sequined bottoms which matched her navy blue lipstick. And this time, she straightened out her blonde hair. Hashtag hair goals.
Rita posed with pal Nick Grimshaw wearing a sexy black plunging leather number. Rita has a grunge side I absolutely love and this year, leather has pretty much been her life. She had her hair curled up again.
Think you’ve had just about enough with these 30-second outfit changes, Rita switched it up again with an off-the-shoulder floral dress with mesh sleeves and a cropped platinum blonde wig while chatting to singer, Liam Payne.
One to never forget her British roots, Rita paid homage to Scotland in a red tartan dress cinched at the waist with a black belt and the hair game was on again with a cropped red wig.
Rita invoked old Hollywood glamour in her chat to Jared Leto. She had on a blue fringed fur coat on a pink sequin dress. She wore a blonde bouncy wig with statement curls.
Rita’s last outfit change was for her performance of her hit song ‘Your song’ which has graced the number one spot on UK ITunes for weeks. She had on a crop top which flashed her midriff and shorts with adjoining fishnet leggings.
Rita walked away with the first ever EMA for the new category ‘Power of Music’ and the unofficial award for hostess with the mostest. Love her or hate her, Rita undoubtedly killed the 2017 MTV EMAs.
