On this day, 7 years ago most Nigerians were struck with the awful death of a Rap legend who really opened up the path of indigenous rap in Nigeria.
Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun, popularly known as Dagrin proved to us that there was Talent in the Ghetto. Dagrin didn’t have to drop numerous albums to top charts.
I remember his song where he said:”if i die, make you no cry for me”, but nevertheless there was tears in my eyes when i heard of the news.
He died as a result of multiple injuries as a result of a car accident he was involved in. His remains were buried at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos State.
Many believe the “pon pon pon” crooner paved the way for other indigenous rappers like olamide and the likes. Olamide in an interview admitted he never met Dagrin in person, but was no doubt inspired by him.
Dagrin leaves on in our hearts, number one omota… Respect to DAGRIN.
