A 29-year-old Woman has been arrested by the Police for allegedly hurting her stepdaughters with hot knife and pepper.
The stepdaughters, 10-year-old Vera, and her younger sister, Favour, five, suffered several major injuries inflicted on them by their stepmother.
The woman, Chidima Nnachi, reportedly beat up Vera, rubbed pepper on her eyes and used a hot knife to burn the young girl’s back.
She also reportedly injured Favour on the forehead and inserted pepper in her eyes for allegedly soiling her body.
It was gathered that the children’s mother died in 2012 after she gave birth to Favour.
The Offender, Mrs Nnachi has reportedly been maltreating the kids for a while now; which makes you wonder –If the girls were really hers, would she have treated them better.
The Stereotype on the relationship between stepmothers and stepdaughters is pretty strong in the society we live in. Stepmothers are perceived Evil while the Stepdaughters suffer maltreatment under her rule.
In as much as I wouldn’t like to promote the stereotypical idea on the “steps relationship”, I have to say that cases like this have become more rampant in the society.
Is it impossible for a Stepmother to love her step daughters as if they were her own blood? -well this case is not an isolated one, it adds to the pile of abuse cases suffered by Children mostly from Guardians who aren’t their biological parents.
